OUR STORY
Hi there, my name is Heather, and I am the founder of The Rusty Coo in Lairg.
I took the leap of faith to initially establish the shop on the corner of Main Street, after a kind offer from the couple renting it out, and opened up at the beginning of October 2019.
Since then, I have moved into another shop just up the road in August 2020, beside Lairg Pharmacy, which is where I hope to stay for the foreseeable future.
The idea of this gift shop was to showcase the talented local people, as there are many! As well as to bring more eco-friendly products to the residents of Lairg who are too rural to be connected to the mains, or would just like to live more sustainably. Most of the items I stock can only be bought online or in Inverness.
Prior to opening, I could be found most weeks (with toddler in tow) at local markets selling my own wares (Rusty Coo Clothing), and running the Lairg Community Market, which helped me to reach out to local traders to see if there was any interest in such a venture.
The rest, they say, is history...
I love working in the shop, and I will usually be seen sewing between serving customers!
